New York Fashion Week 2014

Mark Holgate comments on Marc Jacobs collection...
"
Should one always read the signs—or what one imagines are the signs—at a Marc Jacobs show? A dreamlike suspension of white clouds scudding high above the audience’s heads, drawing the eye up, a depiction of skyward freedom? The sound track that consisted of a lush yet melancholic orchestral passage playing as Jessica Lange intoned the words to “Happy Days Are Here Again.” (If you’re only familiar with the likes of the Judy and Barbara version, then you’ll want to get a load of this one.) A colour palette of bone and ivory and beige and nude, a scheme of whispering neutrals that indicated a cleansing-like reset on everything? Was all this an indication of where Marc Jacobs’s head is at post–Louis Vuitton? Honestly, really, who cares? The wonderful thing about Marc Jacobs is that he is capable of conjuring up a million different moods, alighting on something, only to turn 180 degrees the very next season."

I love the collection, it is dreamy, dainty and beautiful. The flowing garments do express a Ethereal Feel, this is done through the pastel colour pallet used, alongside the striped back make-up showcasing conventional beauty.

With university we visited London to explore:
  •  museums,
  • gallery's,
  • high end retailers
  • and Chelsea Harbour Design studios.
The First museum I went to was the V&A museum, I was immediately inspired from the building's exterior and interior, the architecture is stunning.

Ethical issues within a industry

Ethics...

"•‘1 [usually treated as plural] moral principles that govern a person’s behaviour or the conducting of an activity: medical ethics also enter into the question’ (Oxford English Dictionary)

Critical thinking

•‘the objective analysis and evaluation of an issue in order to form a judgement: professors often find it difficult to encourage critical thinking among their students’ (Oxford English Dictionary)

Objective

•‘1(of a person or their judgement) not influenced by personal feelings or opinions in considering and representing facts: historians try to be objective and impartial’ (Oxford English Dictionary)"

  • After watching this video, it has made me question where my clothes come from, although everyone is aware of bad working conditions in other countries, I believe that we turn a blind eye to it because it does not happen in our own country.

  • It is a constant evil circle, the only reason that clothing is so cheap is because the brands are getting their products from overseas, where their is no national wage law is put in place.

  • We all love a bargain, but what price are the workers who construct these cheap goods paying ?

A1 drawing.

With my chosen theme being Ethereal, I decided to use a ornate candle stick with roses wrapped around. The floral's as a sense of natural beauty with the ornate candle state embracing a Rococo sense of style.
